Lots of activities during the holidays too!

The past few months have been summer holidays in Brazil. But activities continued as usual!

Summer holidays in Brazil are very long, over 2 months. And parents just have to go to work. This means many children hang out unsupervised, especially in ‘our’ children’s neighbourhoods.

To prevent the children from ending up on the streets, the teachers, together with the other staff, did their utmost to accommodate the children. They organised games and all kinds of special activities. This way, the children still got a real holiday feeling!

Just before 2025, we sent personal thanks to everyone who helped us with the Christmas campaign. Below is a small and colourful overview. Because even though we are only a small foundation, thank you from all the children for your support is huge!

The extras that make life more fun

In December, the children had a couple of fun outings:

First, they participated in a fantastic hockey festival. This involved going to a hockey tournament where everyone got a medal. Fun in sport, that was what it was all about.
They also took a bus to the theatre: good for their cultural development and for all the children it was one big party.

These activities were made possible by a nice donation from Jeannette Hanenburg, together with Duxvalves BV.

Another piece of news: our vegetable garden donor has also pledged support again. This will allow us to continue our vegetable garden project again this year. The money will be used to purchase new materials.

More money for psychological and pedagogical help

We are very happy to report that this year we have received additional donations for psychological and pedagogical help for the children. This is much needed. Because many of the children suffer from trauma and others have developmental disabilities. So extra support is more than welcome.

Psychological help: so far, we can count on a psychologist who volunteers her services once a week. This allows her to help 6 children. Thanks to a nice donation we have received from the Equilibrium Foundation, we can offer even more children the support they need.
Educational help: through a new foundation, The Sparkle Initiative, we received a donation to continue the work of our remedial teacher for a year. Fantastic that we can offer children more help in school. It means they learn to read and write. And that they get back to the level of their peers. A big boost for their self-confidence!

Change in board

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our secretary Margot Maertens for all the work she has done for us over the past years. Due to a move abroad, it became more difficult for her to be fully involved. Fortunately, we have found a worthy successor: Tess van de Blink will now fill this position and she immediately provides a nice rejuvenation of the board. We look forward to working together!

Wilde Ganzen Wild Week

The Wilde Ganzen foundation has supported us several times already: with the construction, with the emergency kits and with the trees. Each time, this meant that they added €0.50 on top of every euro donated. This year we have a special action: from 14-27 April, various organisations will organise events and Wilde Ganzen will double that amount for every foundation that participates. So we too will organise many activities during that period. A special newsletter will go out focusing entirely on Wild Week.

Support our projects every month or annually?

Any support is very welcome. Life in Brazil remains expensive and we still have a lot of plans. So we will also need more financial muscle. A great idea is to support us monthly or annually. As we are an ANBI foundation, there are opportunities to make it tax-deductible. Want to know more?
