Holidays are celebrated: Easter

In Brazil, supermarkets are full of huge chocolate eggs around Easter. A great time to surprise the children of ASAS. The local entrepreneurs helped to give them a nice portion of chocolate too. An (Easter)Sunday best treat.

Our tree plan is growing and thriving!

We have previously reported on our successful tree campaign. The implementation of our tree plan is now in full swing. Last year, the first trees were planted on our new site. And in the meantime, ASAS has not been resting. 122 of the 157 trees have now been planted. The rest will also be put into the ground soon.

At the same time, there was plenty of focus on tree maintenance as well as the educational piece. We teach the children which trees are planted, that they understand that trees need water, how to maintain a vegetable garden and so on.

In the next phase of this project (as of now, that is), we will of course continue with this. One issue, however, is that maintenance costs more than anticipated. The piece of land is large and we have to put a lot of energy, time and money into it. But with creative tools – such as drippers on a PET bottle – we manage to keep costs under control.

New teachers, new energy

For various reasons, a number of teachers have left. It always brings a lot of work to attract good, new teachers. And it takes energy to re-integrate the new people. Yet it remains fascinating to see how easily such changes are tackled. Brazilians are flexible and a new member in the team also brings new energy and ideas. So our activities there continue happily: you can see a video below. Click on the picture to open it.

What do the children think of ASAS? What does it bring them? And how do they feel about it? They know how to capture it beautifully. One word is enough.

Our next trips to Brazil: November 2024

As announced in the previous newsletter: Tess van de Blink, in collaboration with Liduine, is organising a youth trip for the first time. The youth trip is intended for young people aged 20-30 who would like to see and experience all that the foundation is doing in Brazil. The trip is planned for 2 to 9 November.
We already have a nice group of participants, but there are still 2 spots available. Also interested? Please contact info@power2fly.nl

Following the youth trip, there is another trip for donors and interested parties. This will take place from 9 to 16 November (you can also join for a few days!). Want to know more? Then contact info@power2fly.nl

Charity campaigns

Keep on going for Power2fly

Stijn, Coen and Jelle ran the Utrecht marathon on Sunday 19 May: a top achievement, of course. Especially since they ran all those thousands of metres to raise money for Power2Fly!

Needless to say, we are tremendously pleased with this initiative. Respect for the perseverance and teamwork of these three friends. Whenever they had a hard time, they helped each other: they managed to run the whole marathon and finish together. Great work guys and thank you so much!

Dinner for a new outfit

A loyal supporter of Power2fly in America organised two special dinners at her home. The aim: to raise money to have a new outfit made for the children at ASAS. Ideal because then the children can ‘just put on’ one of those bright orange shirts when they are at ASAS. That way, they avoid getting their own shirt dirty. Everyone happy!

Support our projects every month or annually?

Any support is very welcome. Life in Brazil has become more expensive and our new accommodation will soon have room for more children and young people. So we will also need more financial leeway. A great idea is to support us monthly or annually. As we are an ANBI foundation, there are opportunities to make it tax-deductible. Want to know more? Send an email to penningmeester@power2fly.nl

Lucky cards: always special

Order them right away and give someone else a ribbon!

They are still there! And what could be nicer to give away than a gift that will make someone in the Netherlands and in Brazil happier?

The idea is simple: we have cards with 1, 2 or 3 lucky ribbons (for €15 or €25 or €50). You give such a card away to yourself or someone else. All proceeds will benefit Power2Fly’s projects and thus… children in Brazil who desperately need our help.

There is literally and figuratively a beautiful Brazilian story attached to the cards: tie a band around someone’s wrist, let them make a wish and if the band falls off the wrist, the wish will be fulfilled. Feel free to order more than one: then you can pass on another batch of good luck.
